A Bad Routine is Worse Than No Routine At All

Routines are the most important child rearing technique parents of toddlers and preschoolers can use. Routines create structure, security, boundaries. Routines create a solid container in which kids can learn to operate.

But like a box that’s too big, the wrong-sized container can damage the valuable item within with too much room to rattle around. Likewise, a box that’s too small might also break the item we’re trying to ship.

But a “just-right” box gets the package to its destination in safety, style and comfort, stress-free.

Routines are like this too. The right routine, at the right time, with the right elements, can help a day go smoothly in a way that little else can when you’re living with a toddler or preschooler.

Right routines reduce the need for “Because I said so”’s. They reduce power dynamics and fights. They create peace.

Routines are something I’m passionate about as a strategy to help toddlers and preschoolers feel safe, successful and secure, and as a strategy to help parents feel calm and in control.

That’s why I’ll be live on Zoom at 1pm ET next Saturday (2/5/22).

During our time together, I’ll show you how just a few optimized routines can decrease meltdowns, reduce your reliance on Time Outs and other punishments, AND reduce your need for so many RULES. We’ll have time to answer your questions, and we’ll have time to tweak your specific routines.

You’ll go from feeling out of control and like your only weapon is Time Out, to feeling empowered, calm, and in charge.

We’ll talk about why your toddler or preschooler needs routines and what happens when they don’t have them. We’ll also talk about why a bad routine might be worse than no routine.

Join me next Saturday at 1pm ET by requesting the Zoom link from HERE.

See you soon!
