What’s Hiding Behind the Masks?
As we look back on over two years of mask wearing, we wanted to help parents understand the implications of kiddos not being able to see and hear sounds/words/phrases and sentences. Rebecca Sanchez created this amazing one-pager to help put it all together.
Here’s the takeaway:
When we’re learning to talk, we use a lot of visual information from people’s mouths. We also depend on being able to accurately hear what speech sounds like.
Masks distort both of those things and can exacerbate underlying speech and language weaknesses.
What to do? Get support earlier rather than later. We know that early intervention works. And it works really well when it’s done…. well….. EARLY. Reach out if you think masks have affected your child’s ability to hear, say and process sounds. We’re at (202) 306-0505 or info@speechkids.com.
