Parenting is no easy task. Whether it is your first child or not, we all struggle some days. It doesn’t help that no kid is the same, so what worked for one, might fail horribly for another. It also doesn’t help that a child with developmental or behavioral issues needs a different set of parenting skills altogether.  

Social Workers can help.

The main role of a Social Worker is to support families in need of assistance with problems that arise in everyday life. These highly trained individuals devote their careers to helping children and families work through tough times. 

Social workers can help families cope with challenges stemming from illness, unemployment, divorce, and death; they can provide direct psychotherapy services to family members; they also can connect families to community resources such as healthcare, child care and other supports. 

Social Workers will work with other care providers to make sure your family is getting the help that you need.

You can find them in all types of healthcare settings from hospitals to schools to private practice, and they can create and manage a plan for caring for you and your children.

Sometimes the social worker is also the care coordinator (which we talked about in a previous video HERE). Think of the social worker as sitting in the center of the circle with you and helping you figure out how to assemble the support and team you need in order to survive and thrive.
